Join Me On Substack
I’m launching a new, and more personal, newsletter.
Hello friends,
I hope the summer season was good to you all. Following the closure of Primal’s operations, I took some time for myself to rest and reset in the company of friends and family. One of the hardest parts about being a small business owner is that the demands of the business, which require your constant presence, make it hard to commit to and show up for the people you love. So often during Sundays or holidays spent with family, I was drained of energy or distracted by issues or stresses, and being there didn’t mean I was really there. So this summer I simply said yes to invitations. I cooked family meals, played in the pool, swam in the ocean, walked in the woods, and started to remember what it feels like to just be a person who is responsible only for caring for myself. It was wonderful.
I also spent the summer reading a ton and developing a more dedicated writing practice. So the next time you receive a newsletter from me, it will be a personal one. After much consideration I’ve decided it’s time to wind down this mailing list (Mailchimp costs money to maintain and Primal Supply no longer generates revenue). But I don’t intend to disconnect from our community, or to stop being a resource for sustainable food, so I’ll be migrating to Substack. I’m launching a new newsletter very soon, and there’s nothing you’ll need to do, except continue to open your email and read.
One of the pluses of Substack, other than cultivating a collaborative community of writers, is that while it is a free service, it is offers options for paid subscriptions. The incentive to make this move was not to monetize this mailing list, but to create a new space to share online as I find my own voice without a business behind it. I intend to publish regular newsletters for free, but if you decide to upgrade, paid subscribers will have the ability to comment and engage (in order to sustain a safe and friendly space), and will receive occasional “edible extras” like recipes I’m developing, menu ideas, and other bonus content. This part is a bit of an experiment, but if there are enough of you who find value in supporting my new project financially, I have ideas I hope to explore, like digital classes and a podcast with my food friends. We’ll see how it goes, for now I’m simply focused on the writing and hope you’ll all continue to read.
Thanks for continuing to be here,
Heather
